About OHSAS 18001

The Occupational Health & Safety Management System Standard

OHSAS stands for Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series. The series contains a set of documents published by a group of interested parties concerned with the proliferation of many different standards addressing this topic.

OHSAS 18001 helps organizations establish policies and methodologies for identifying, planning for and controlling those operational risks that pose a hazard to employee health and safety.

The standard specifies the general requirements that an organization needs to have in-place in order to become certified.
